The Mama Pilista Memorial Health Center
"where you live should no longer determine whether you live" ~Bono
The Mama Pilista Memorial Health Center located centrally in the village of Masara provides sustainable, cooperative healthcare to the thousands of residents that live in the area. The official dedication ceremony of the bare bones facility took place December 11, 2006 with Dr. Bonyo, his family, and other contributors being honored. It was an emotional celebration, attended by twenty-six of Bonyo's Kenya Mission participants, and hundreds of villagers. Speakers included a minister of health official, a member of parliament, as well as many local tribal leaders and officials. They spoke of hope and immense gratitude for what the future brings.
Tens of thousands of patients have been treated in the clinic by Bonyo's Kenya Mission participants since the program started in 1995. The U-shaped, 6,000 sq ft building has twenty-one rooms and provides outpatient, as well as inpatient care. Bonyo's Kenya Mission has four Kenyan staff members that operate the clinic and provide patient care, additional support is offered when medical professional and volunteers for the States travel to Kenya to provide treatment and patient care to the residents of the area.
